Description
Collection of about 200 sandstone concretions just outside of Minneapolis, Kansas. Bouldering only.
If you are looking for some of the best bouldering Kansas has to offer, this is it. While it might not look like much, the 15 to 20 foot boulders offer quality routes with room to grow.
Currently, there are not that many "official" routes that have pictures and a first ascent, but following chalk hand placements up the wall should provide enough direction to add to the collection.
The rock is quality sandstone and the risk of pulling off pieces on the established routes is not a problem that other locations in Kansas have (example: limestone at cliff drive). Plants and lichen are growing around some of the hand and foot placements but depending on the route, its not a problem.
Overall, this is a nice place for midwesterners to get their climbing fix satiated and is definitely worth checking out.
Getting There
There is a small gift shop where Rock City, Inc., the local non-profit corporation that operates the park, collects a $3 fee. There is a bucket to leave money when the gift shop is closed.
