Description
Great crag will solid basalt cliffs. The area offers a full range of routes so it is a great place to take a posse with varied abilities. Sport climbing from 5.7 to 5.12c. Trad climbing from 5.5 to 5.9+.
Note for climbers seeking 5.9 and under. The routes 5.9 and under at running scared offer maybe the highest level of enjoyment when compared against route of the same grade throughout the cedar city area.
Getting There
From Cedar City, take Highway 14 East to Highway 148 (this is also the turn for Cedar Breaks National Monument). Drive through Cedar Breaks (no fee required if you're just driving through) and make a right (east) on Highway 143. Take Hwy. 143 for 5.5 miles. Park in the pull off on the right side of the road just before the stream passes under the road.
From the parking area, cross the road and follow the faint trail along the fence line through the meadow. After 0.25 miles (5 min) you will come to an old logging road that has been decommissioned. Take a right on that road and hike for another 0.26 mile. There you will see the cairns and entrance of the trail for Running Scared on your left. The crag is 0.35 mile from the logging road.
All total, 0.86 miles of approach taking about 25 minutes.
