Description
Maxwell Falls is a great place for camping, rock climbing, and hiking. It is a pretty shady area, it can get hot in the summer, and it is excellent in the fall. I would say it is a hidden climbing sanctuary for the mountain people that enjoy moderate to difficult lead routes, on exceptionally solid rock.
Getting There
Start from Evergreen around the lake is CO-74, Turn right at the intersection CO-73 heading toward Conifer, follow this road for a couple miles and you will see Brook Forest Road, turn right, follow road 3 miles past the Brook Forest Inn. Once you pass the Inn, there are two parking lots 1.25 miles up the road (left on Black Mountain Rd.), the first one is on the left after a couple of switchbacks, there is a wood fence that goes along the road, park and follow the trail to the cliffs. The second parking lot is the actual Maxwell Falls parking lot, it's a very distinct parking lot at the bottom of the road on your left, this will take you to the falls and the bottom of the cliffs.
Per the National Forest service Hiking, Clear Creek Ranger District: the hike on Trail #111 is 2 miles with 600 feet elevation gain and follows Maxwell Creek.
