Warning Access Issue: Seasonal Raptor Closures ***** RAIN AND WET ROCK ***** The sandstone in Zion is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN ZION during or after rain. A good rule of thumb is that if the ground near your climb is at all damp (and not powdery dry sand), then do not climb. There are many alternatives (limestone, granite, basalt, and plastic) nearby. Description Suggest change

The Red Sentinel, as named by Jeff Lowe in the 1972 AAJ is the northern most sub peak of the main Sentinel. It’s massive north face is one of the biggest in Zion. At least 5 routes ascend its 2000’ face. Its location is one of the most spectacular in Zion…The Red Sentinel sits directly across from Abraham, in the Court of the Patriarchs.

Getting There Suggest change

Hike up the Court of the Patriarchs, cross the stream bed and hike up the base of the wall. Takes about 1 hour.
