Description
A mostly short, south-facing wall of solid diorite just below the summit of Mount Erie. Home to several moderate trad leads, but many come here specifically to top-rope. There are several easily accessible bolted anchors and convenient trees located at the top of the feature, but come prepared with lots of webbing and anchor rope. Scramble down easily on either side of the wall. Summit Wall is a purely Trad crag with a old history and that should be respected. This wall in particular is popular with classes so don't be surprised if The Nose, The Open Book, The Apex, etc. are busy the entire day.
Getting There
Drive up the Mount Erie road until just shy of the summit towers. As you drive underneath the powerlines near the top, the Summit Wall parking area (not the main summit area parking & viewpoint) is visible directly ahead & on the right as the road swings sharply left. Only room for a few cars, but the main parking area is only another several hundred feet along the road.
Approach: from the lower parking area (not the main one at the top), two trails head south to the buttress. Left trail leads to the top of the crag & the lower or right trail leads out through the trees & across an exposed step-around bouldering move to reach the bottom of the crag (at least one non-climber fatality has occurred at the step-around move--be cautious).
