Getting weather forecast...

This is a huge granite boulder in the middle of the woods. Very secluded. The rock is in great shape.

Getting There

Start in Star Lake, WI. Take K west. Take a left on Langly Lake Ski trail. Continue on the dirt road for about .8 miles and your there. You will see a dried up mud pond (Langly Lake) on your right. Drive past the pond. The boulder is on your right, just off the road. You can't miss it.

This was a great find. I remembered it from when I was a kid. I thought to myself, "Wasnt there a huge boulder down that old deer trail we used to drive on???" So I went to find out. And of course, it was there, just waiting to be climbed. I cleaned off the routes I saw and started putting up first ascents.

I spent about an hour climbing all the routes a few times. It was a good workout and a great little break in my vacation. I was up north to relax with the wife, and it was just great to be able to get some climbing in as well.

So if you're in the area, and have a some time to spare, hit up Wolf Rock.

edit 5/13/08 : After doing some research on bouldering climbing grades, I have decided to change a few of the grades on these problems. Aug 6, 2007

Great work John. It's pretty special to do new lines, especially when you look with new eyes at something from your past. It really doesn't get any better. Aug 6, 2007

Thx man. It was really fun and exciting to find and climb. We took another odd trail road the next day and found another huge boulder. But on my way to it I found a few ticks on me and it was getting dark, so I headed back to the truck and brushed those bastards off me (I know, I'm a wuss). I will get that one next year. HAHAHA.

This boulder got it's name from the Wolf we saw that very day I climbed it. About 10 min before climbing. I will post a pic of it ASAP. Aug 8, 2007

I was in the area today and thought I'd check out this hunk of stone. I had a bit of a hard time finding the boulder, as the directions are not correct. The boulder lies north and east of Star Lake, WI, not south and west. From the intersection of Hwy N and Hwy K,(which is just east of Star Lake) drive East for 3.2 miles. You will come to a brown sign indicating the Langley Lake Ski Trails. Go North for .6 miles and the boulder will be on your right. Nov 27, 2011
