Description
The Gun Club is a small canyon with routes lining both sides. The majority of the routes are relatively short (40 ft), but the short approach and quality of the routes make this a great crag for an evening outing, or an all-day climbfest.
The south wall (north facing) gets shade from mid-morning onwards, while the north wall (south facing) gets sun for most of the day. The rock here is sharp, and requires careful technique as well as some callouses. =)
All anchors inspected/updated/replaced in August 2023 with ASCA hardware.
Getting There
Quite a nice approach in all regards. Take the 215 beltway to Cliff Shadows Parkway/W Cheyenne Ave, then in about half a mile turn left onto W Alexander Rd; continue to the park entrance at the end. Alternatively, simply navigate to what Google calls "Cliff Shadows Open Desert Park". Park in the smallish paved lot or larger gravel lot, then hike over to the the obvious crags facing each other just across the wash. (Previous instructions referenced turning onto a "dirt road just before Alexander"; this no longer applies, there is now a separate playground park in that space.)
