Description
This is a small area east of the Firehouse Area. It is composed of 4 short ice sections ranging from 8-25 feet high. The second section is the highest and the right side of this section has the steepest line (almost vertical to vertical). This is a fun place to boulder around/solo/or teach someone to lead ice. All the sections are WI2-3. Similar to doing one of the Boulder Canyon flows in both difficulty and approach! Yes, it's a grueling 5 minute hike with perhaps 100 feet of daunting vertical gain.
Getting There
Get off at the East Vail exit on I-70. Go left (east) on Bighorn Road for 2 miles. Turn right on Main Gorge drive, go 0.2 miles and turn right on Jupiter Rd, go 0.3 miles and turn right on Meadow Dr., and go 0.2 miles till you hit the Racquet Club. The lot facing the climbs (on the left) seems like the best place to park. The climb will be right in front of you past the tennis courts.
