Viola Secrets – 5.13c

China Cave, Logan Canyon, Utah

Viola Secrets combines the cruxes of two of the cave’s classics—Bassoon and Secret Sharer—into a single, full-value line.

Begin with the savage opening boulder of Bassoon, fight into a knee bar rest, then launch into the power endurance headwall of Secret Sharer. Both hard sequences flow together naturally, making for one of the most complete challenges in the cave.

The name comes from the first ascensionist’s daughter, who plays viola, and ties into the cave’s tradition of musically themed routes (Bassoon, Oboe, etc.). Like its inspirations, this climb strikes a sharp, technical note and rewards those who can play it to the finish.
