Description
This area has a reasonable hike to a few solid rhyolite lines, and one beautiful hueco. The north facing peaks provide morning shade. Many of the climbs are north facing as well, providing all day shade in the winter. Be wary of cave hermits.
This is state land that requires a pass which can be obtained here land.az.gov/natural-resourc…
Getting There
Park at any of the pullouts on North Van Ark Rd (32.344585, -111.182249), There are 3 the last one will get you the closest to the boulders. Please be courteous to locals most of them have had this as their backyard hiking spot for decades. The boulder field is a 35 min flat trail hike from here(1.3mi). Once on the main trail head north crossing a large wash and a second small wash. Take the next right heading towards the cliffs, this trail will hit another trail heading north that will eventually dead end at the park boundary. About 50 ft from the fence will be a trail that heads east towards the cliffs follow this trail till the boulders come into view on the left. When turning off the trail uphill to hike to the boulders be careful of the desert vegetation, the desert is fragile.
