Moving to SLC. Where should I live?

West side is ghetto from riverton to slc. East side bench (mouth of canyons) is $$$. Don't live South of Lehi. Where are you working? Live within 10 min of that. |

Funny comment. There are so many nice areas. It all depends on what you are looking for. Have a family? Single and ready to mingle? Political leanings? There are many factors. A simple statement like the previous one is incorrect and a basic generalization. I work in all the neighborhoods in SLC. I work closely with SLPD and know where the crime is more common and what types of crime is prevalent. If you still want information and want to leave this nonsense, email me at buildingeye@gmail.com |

To me you move where work and fun is closest, then spread out if you cant afford it and go with #2. And yeah, unless you live under I-15 you'll be fine. My friend lives in a ghetto spot in Millcreek two blocks from the new Front gym and even her neighborhood is being gentrified quickly. |

Sure ghetto isn't entirely accurate but conveys the message. West of 15 is not the "nice" area and if you live over there you know you live in the "worse" area of SLC whether you want to admit it or not. Again, I recommend living within a 10 min drive of wherever you are working. Commuter traffic isn't as bad as other big cities but its still annoying if you have to use i15. |

Oh man, you should hear what the west siders say about the east siders! |

The best place to live in SLC is Boulder, CO. |

I’m probably going to get flamed for this because MP, but here goes: I would take the ‘all of the west valley is ghetto’ claims with a grain of salt, since much of that seems tied up in racism. If anything, there is just more black and brown people on that side of the valley because it’s more affordable. Sure, it’s a bit more sprawling and doesn’t have a cool coffee shop on every block, but it’s not a bad area to live based on what I’ve heard from people who do. You’re also a relatively shorter drive to some of the canyons if living in South Jordan than, say, Marmalade which is right near the Utah Capitol building—especially with southbound 1-15 traffic. It seems like Liberty Wells and Sugar House are the happy medium areas for having somewhat of a city feel while also being relatively close to the canyons (10 mins to Millcreek, 15 to BCC, 20 to LCC), and if you can afford living in those areas, I’d say go for it. Otherwise, if you’re okay with driving 25-30 mins to the mouth of the canyons and aren’t attached to living in a trendy urban area, then any place in the valley will do. |

No flame here Jimmy. Well put |

"seems tied up in racism." I don't know if it's racism.... Maybe classism or economic/cultural bias. Plenty of sketchy white peeps out there. |

People who say ghetto's of Utah mostly likely are just talking about the more run down parts of Utah. Comparatively the worsts parts of Utah are a dream compared to the better parts of states like Mississippi. |

fwiw, I might have made the first comment in this thread about the west side being hood, somewhat jokingly, (mostly w valley) but if you want to know- my entire impression was tweaky white people, awful roads, and weird shitty mixed commercial/residential/industrial zoning and not at all about people of color
Edit: if you see hood/ghetto and read:diverse, that’s on you homie |
