There really isn't any downside to signing up for an Experticity account. You get exposed to some advertising but it's fairly easy to filter that in your email. Other than that, it's just like having an extra online shop available to you which has a few deep discounts available.
There are downsides to ordering from them compared to other sellers (i.e. paying shipping and long delivery times) but those are things you have to consider when buying from any seller. And there are upsides: you don't have to wait for sales, because the discounts are always about the same. In particular, Mammut stuff is reliably discounted by 40%, which is enough that it's cheaper than other retailers even with shipping costs.
It's great for big dollar items. I've gotten sleeping bag, rope, shoes, down puffy etc. on there for really good prices. But chances are that if it's less than $100 item it may not be worth it after shipping. I've had issues with Trango (I placed an order 2 years ago that has yet to be processed) everything else has been a breeze. A rope from beal took about 3 weeks but everything else was processed in a day or 2 and arrived in about a week.
I prefer OPL to experticity. The design is way better and there's not quite as many completely irrelevant brands. For climbing gear it isn't as effective. Shipping is almost always based on the price. Climbing gear, which is often relatively small, can rack up way more shipping than it really needs. So for climbing hardware you really end up with about 30% off. You can really save on bikes and such as there are frequent free shipping and 40% off promos.
Promotive/Experticity is a consistent place to find roughly 30-40% off stuff. As others stated up thread one can usually find their target product for a better deal with free shipping, AJ cash back and all. Prodeals arent what they used to be. I also get access to Outdoor Prolink which is a similar type site and worth looking into. It has many outdoor companies to choose from with more climbing brands such as Metolius, wildcountry, DMM to name a few. Here’s a list of a few notable gear suppliers available. Too many to list them all:
