Thanks for all your hard work, and continuing to work to improve the site! Here's my feedback:

1. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but it seems far more difficult and unpleasant to read now.

For me it has to do with the way everything seems to "float" on the page. The lack of a well defined border around the conversation makes it different than the way almost every other message thread is displayed.

When somebody joined-who cares.  Those that do can dig a little deeper.

Points-still nobody cares.  Not on the forum.  The few that care can dig deeper.

Consider removing.

And the date of the post is quite relevant.  Yet, it is at the end of the post.  It belongs at the beginning.

I second Greg D's feedback.

So far, my biggest complaint is that the date/time of the post has been moved to the very end of the post's text body.  That makes it very annoying to search for!

There are plenty of multi-page threads that span multiple days.  I use the date/time of the post to see where the new replies start from.  That information is far more important than when someone joined, which has been given a prominent and easy-to-find spot right under their username.

Move the date/time of each post to the top of each post.

I don't care that much about when someone joined or how many points that have that I need to see it under their username.

Thanks!

Adding to the constructive ideas, when clicking on the notifications button, it lists the name of the person replying to the thread in large bold text, and the name of the thread appear below in smaller text. Makes more sense to me to have it reversed, since you can already assume it's going to be one of the same 6 jokers trolling every thread in the forum, what I'm interested in is which thread I'm clicking on. (joking but really)

1. I don't need to see when someone joined, I need to see when the post was made.

2. Is there still a way to see which forums have new posts? The old blue/grey toggling was very useful.

3. Having the OP's name right next the post title on the forum page makes the names all staggered and makes it very hard to read who made the post.

4. The white/gray alternating on posts inside a thread is an improvement.

Hard to read. Please change it...not necessarily to the original, but something to make it more readable. Too much white space is blinding my eyes.

Several folks have commented on this and I'm confused because I think we have that feature:  On a forum page, if you click the topic title, you go to the first post.  If you click the timestamp (on the right) of the "Last Post", you go directly to the last post.

Maybe this is too subtle?  Or am I missing the issue?

I usually jump right into recently updated threads from the main MP page, bypassing the forum page, so I was missing the time stamp. In any case the addition of the arrows at the top of each thread page takes care of the problem -- very nice!

Thanks for the hard work. I like most of the changes. Is there any way to select which forums you want to subscribe to? That would eliminate a lot of clutter when looking at latest posts and eliminate those forums I'm simply not interested in.

Thanks

Also agree with some previous posters:

  • Don't care when someone joined
  • Don't care about points
  • DO care about date something was posted

I agree, the timestamp needs to be in the same location on each post so the eye can find it easily.  Please put it on the side with the poster's identity or at the beginning of the post rather than the end of the post.

+1 on the following issues:

  • the white space issue. Content is harder to read that way.
  • 'Joined' and 'Points' not relevant for a forum post

I also miss the indicator on the forum index page that some new answer was posted to a thread. The litte red '*' does not seem to work reliably.

In the notification box, thread title should definitely come before the poster and perhaps in larger font

And we should be able to open each forum in a new tab.

Please change the blindingly bright white background and lack of contrast...

I'm guessing the changes are aimed to make the site more compatible and uniform among mobile and desktop devices, but it really is unpleasant to look at compared to the old layout. I have a forum tab open from a few days ago that I haven't refreshed yet, that still has the old design, and it's like night and day. The older layout is easy to read, pleasant to the eyes, doesn't require constant scrolling due to very low content density and white space, and it doesn't look like I'm staring into a bright white light..

It is still far better than rockclimbing.com so it isn't likely to drive me to that yet.

Isn't that site dead?  I think the owners stopped managing the site years ago unless it made a comeback.  Credit for being the first major site, but man that place sucked.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
