Are you suggesting people will be base jumping at Fosters during the night to avoid rangers? Seems plausible, perhaps a bit of a stretch but goes to show how sometimes rules can make you less safe.

Not suggesting anything. Dean Potter and Graham Hunt were beloved and historic climbers that met an unfortunate end when jumping in Yosemite at night.

It's not a new rule. This has been a rule as long as I can remember going there, at least since 2007. I think the Ranger was posting to notify people about the new camping reservation system, that is the only thing that has changed. It was previously done at the kiosk on paper, now it's online. Nothing earth shattering is occurring here... This is being blown way out of proportion.

If you are truly upset by this, and live in the state of Tennessee, you can contact the representatives for our area in the state legislature and explain to them that you are unhappy. This is not meant to be a snarky or disrespectful response to all the comments above. This is legitimately how to get things changed. That said, myself and all the other rangers of South Cumberland State Park greatly appreciate the kind words some of you have posted. Our job would be impossibly difficult without the support and respect of our visitors. Thank you for abiding by the rules and helping us keep our park beautiful.
Climbers and all are lucky to have someone like you on the staff!
