Where should/shouldn't I live in SLC??

+1 For Draper, or better still Herriman. Herriman has boomed lately and then the housing market flopped leaving a lot of unsold homes, so good prices. Bachus Hwy to the airport = 20 to 40 min depending on traffic. Open, big yards. Parks and canyons not as accessible or as plentiful as the east side canyons, but not as crowded.

Thanks for the info!

We are definitely looking to buy a place in the southern part of the Valley.
We're looking at Draper for sure, Riverton, West Jordan and Sandy right now.
Maybe too many railroads going thru Bacchus for us...But we'll check it out. Thanks!

Yuck! Look at Cottonwood Heights!

Just about anywhere east of I-15 in the Salt Lake valley is nice and close to the goods. I live downtown and like it alot. However, I have also lived in Cottonwood heights and it is good too with close access to skiing, climbing, and biking and neighbors that are likely into this stuff too.

Welcome to Utah. See you at the crags.

Add my vote for Sandy - I just recently purchased a home there for $175k, 1800 square feet with a fairly large backyard, nice views, and a deck, within walking distance of a park. With your higher income you could likely easily pick up an even nicer place.

I'm between 2 and 7 minutes from the mouth of LCC, depending on how many lights I hit. Also within 5 minutes of trax, about 20 from downtown, etc.

Not to mention 5 minutes to kickass indian food. Mmmmmm

West jordan and Riverton are pretty decent, although personally I would say stick with the east side - not only because I'm a straight up east side snob (less crime, more family friendly, cleaner/nicer neighbourhoods, keep in mind these aren't facts just entirely opinions) but also because being on the east side of town keeps you closer to the real action - big and little cottonwoods and the surrounding areas.

I would say, avoid going much further south than 123rd south in draper - depending on your work hours, you will be hitting traffic heading into and out of downtown/the airport at that time, and while the traffic here certainly isn't that bad, it's bad enough to make that particular drive a pain in the ass.

I'm pushing for Sandy/N. Draper as well. We've seen lots of nice places there in our price range. I'm trying to steer the GF away from the Riverton area, and we've ruled out S and W Jordan, too far from the mtns.
We're pretty excited to get out and check out the town.
Thanks for all the advice!
