I will be working for a month in Mongolia (UlaanBaatar) in July and I'm thinking of bringing a bit of kit out. Has anyone been? Enjoyed it even? I've read Neil Gresham's stuff but I've struggled to find anything else online.
I'll be partnerless, are there any guides or even locals (?!?!) willing to show me around?
Yes there is worthwhile climbing there. Mostly trad but some sport at terelj. Check out the mongolia page on here. There's also a decent spot just outside of UB (observatory rock). DM me if u want more beta and enjoy mongolia!
No, but I did get to watch the Mongolian ice climbing junior team during a competition in Ouray, CO. Their coaches were really friendly and I regret not buying one of their team jackets. Let us know how the climbing is.
Thanks for the responses! I just did some easy soloing around Terelj and Khovsgol which was good fun, would recommend Terelj as its so accessible and there are some impressive looking lines dotted around!
