Sawtooth Conditions

Wondering when the sawtooths normally open and if this year would be any different due to low snowfall. More specifically looking at Elephant's perch, Regan, and Heyburn around June but the earlier the better. May be the wrong forum but same inquiry for the Tetons. Thanks in advance.

For the perch, the end of June is usually good. Crossing the river can be sketchy in the early season, since the water flow is high. Also, some routes might be wet. But, THIS YEAR, I am betting(hoping) on early June being good, since we haven't gotten as much snow.

Yea I agree CD, I would think this year would be better then the usual year. Anyone been out there yet?

 Less snow at this time than last year and it is melting fast.

That is the June Couloir. It supposedly forms ice, but it was just snow and rock when I was there in May this and last year.

As a winter mixed enthusiast from Seattle, I’ve been hunting alpine ice in Idaho since I moved here. I found a little bit of ice in the Chockstone Couloir (AKA Boy Scout Couloir) on the Grand Mogul and a lot on the NF of Borah in October. Nowhere else though.

Do any of you fellas know about conditions at Stur Chimney on Heyburn? I am also considering doing the loop that links williams, thompson, mickeys, carter, and taking the ridge line all the way to Bush, then spiking down in the valley to try horstmann the following day. Not sure the exact name of the Horstmann route but on MP its called freaking frazzled, seems to be the most standard couloir based on all the research 'Ive done.
