Salamanders in Castle Crags/Gotta Want It Wall

I'm a biologist working with a research group studying salamanders in the Klamath ecoregion. We're investigating a population of salamanders in the Castle Crags area. Have any climbers found animals while climbing routes in the Crags? We're particularly interested in locations, descriptions of behavior, and dates of observation in order to better understand the species.

Additionally, does anyone know where the "Gotta Want It Wall" is? There are some interesting historic reports from that crag, but coordinates are not available on the internet and our shoestring research project doesn't have the budget for the out-of-print guidebook.

The guidebook doesn’t mention that wall or even a route resembling that name. 

7/14/24 in a waterfall pool (bit of a scramble to access), off the Sulphur Creek Trail, I ran into a salamander. As far as behavior, it was just chilling. I had been planning to lounge in the water but decided my stinkin ass would probably poison the salamander.

It was a cool, unexpected encounter.

I know where it is. I would be interested in the historic reports you speak of. Send me a DM. Also beware this is one the most difficult walls to get to in the crags (and that’s saying something). It is also dangerous! The approach is the site of the only known climber fatalities in castle crags.

Side note. I also know of a site and have a pin where “Shasta salamanders” were found in a limestone pool outside of Castella. I was also told in this same pool were fish that had no eyes. But it is deeeeep in the woods. I went out there to look at some limestone cliffs. Deeep.
