decent number of routes under 5.10 to fill up a day or 2 worth of climbs. nearest campground is Thompsons Lake campground. when we visit we go to the East end wall and work our way back throughout the day, this way you can scope out the whole area before you start. Havent been in years, but its a nice, well kept area with some edgy limestone. Found a few marine fossils too!

Thatcher is cool - fun exposure and interesting setting. I would strongly encourage you and your belayer to wear helmets. The rock quality can be a bit fragile at times.

There are no shortages of Walmarts in the area, the world's largest is a 25 minute drive to the park, but Thompsons lake is a 5 minute drive. Plenty of good climbing at 5.10 and under too.

If you're coming in for the weekend, the TCC is showing the Mellow Film Tour at the park's visitor center on Saturday at 6pm for our annual fundraiser.

Thanks so much for the information.  Seems like it will be worth it to buy the app.  Last minute mechanical problems with the 20 year old sprinter so not sure we will be fixed in time but keeping fingers crossed.  I have not roped up in decades without a  helmet..  harness on helmet on and stays on until I leave the cliff.  Since about 1998...

At times? My friend pulled multiple holds off of what we thought was a popular route. Very glad we had helmets.

Almost forgot, you have to snag permits at the visitor center before you head out to leave on display on your dash. They open at 9 and the permit is good all year.

From the web site it seemed like you could get the permit on your phone???  will our phones work there????

The permit process has improved in the last few years, now you just fill out a Microsoft form now and they'll send you a confirmation email. No more paper permits on your dash or waiting for the visitor's center to open. You'll have at least some service almost everywhere at and around the cliff.

I was trying not to be too damning to the place haha rock quality is quite bad from my memory.

So far it's been excellent but stout.

No fat people allowed.  The only way in and out is through a gnarly squeeze chimney.  Probably not a big deal for the youngsters but a challenge for a 64 year old..

I don't remember any of the route names. Isa had the gunks app guide on her phone and did all the decision making.  This was probobally the most fun route for me to lead. we did it again on the way back through. It's on Leaning Tower?  Honestly most of the really cool looking climbs were simply too hard for me.

Glad you were able to find some fun climbs! I think the first picture you posted is Snazzy, maybe Spiffy. That face has some great climbs on it. Second one looks like Dark Lord Ascending.

You guys have a great venue there!  Too bad they don't let you climb the waterfall in winter. That thing would be as famous as the Fang... The shots i have seen of it fully frozen look stunning. Last week there was still some ice around the base of it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
