Hello, first time on here idrk what I'm doing.

My fiance and I are taking a huge cross country road trip and we want to stop and climb in some places, in this case, somewhere in the stretch between and around Richmond VA and Charlotte NC.

In particular, we are looking for a crag that has many routes in a small area so we can get many climbs in, is popular so we're not just by ourselves in the middle or nowhere, is fairly easy to tie top rope or lead anchors, and is not too far out of our way (hence the Richmond to Charlotte constraint). I see that in Richmond there is Manchester wall; I am looking for something a bit more than this, for reference.

Thanks all!

Pilot Mountain is where most people in the Charlotte and Raleigh area learn to climb outside. It has good routes from 5.6 to 5.13a.

Lots of groups and newer climbers will set up top ropes in the Three Bears Gully or Little Amphitheater (go on a weekday if you do this, these areas are busy on weekends). There are also lots of good, moderate classics at 5.7-5.9 like Pole Dancing, Chicken Bone, and Black Rain.

Some of the routes are spooky to newer climbers or people from out of state since the runouts can be longer than what they’re used to. The rock quality is mixed, so definitely wear a helmet.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
