Interesting! I haven't seen these boxier, more featured multi-pitch bags in the US. I wonder how they would do in chimneys. I'm considering the Bug and now the Rubi to the Rock Blitz and both have comparative advantages.

That's a good question.

Looks like the Bug multi pitch bag got a big overhaul: https://www.petzl.com/US/en/Sport/Packs-And-Accessories/BUG. I’m in the market for a climbing bag, and this one looks super functional, especially compared to some of the floppy minimalist ones that can’t carry a rope.

I agree that some minimalist packs are too flopsy and fragile but this one is too heavy at 665 grams for 18 liters.

It's significantly heavier than the old iteration which was 525. 665 grams is even more than a Alpha FL 30.

Any idea/word if the Leopard front piece will also be linking bar compatible? Maybe that’s part of the “Leopard redesign”. It would be nice to be able to use the flexible linking bar rather than the cord-tec in some cases, and take the couple grams of weight penalty. A linking bar is a bit more stable of a platform than the cord, which I kinda appreciate at times, like on approach shoes or more flexible mtn boots.

It sounds like the cord-tec system will be updated so that it is not captured in the heel and front piece without having to cut the cord or tie/untie a knot. That’s a huge win IMO. Might make it easier to actually swap a cord-tec system from one crampon to another (right now it’s impossible/a huge PITA with a knot), and faster less fiddly field repairs.

Looks like a new bug just dropped. Pretty sweet looking, looks like it has a nice shape and climbing-specific features. Unfortunately they made it heavier and it was already a heavy pack to begin with

I’m an Italian climber and instructor.

I’m working on the Kong Soul ice axe, and I’m looking for measurements and exact dimensions to build a pair of replicas.

New picture on the Petzl Spirit Rack Pack page displays the look of the new cams. Though, they’re kept a little obscure.

Looks to me like the body of BD UL’s with the head of DMM Dragons, plus a carabiner keeper.

Nice find, here’s higher res. 0.3-3 are shown. Is there any innovation in the cams that people have speculated about, or is it just their take on 2 axle cams?

Someone posted the Petzl cam patents here a while ago. One way to read them is that the cams will be designed so that the Dyneema cord inside the stem can be replaced. Thus prolonging their lifespan vs BD ultralights. Won’t know for sure until they come out.

I had posted some of the patents. You can see the hex head, at the side of the cam head, that the patent shows is removable to replace the internal dyneema loop. So checks out thus far.

The language in the patent eluded to some sort of direct loading (IE totem) but I could not make out mechanically in any of the patents how this would work.
I think it NOT something these will do, but one can hold out hope....they got the RD budget to make some cool shit happen and charge us $200/cam.

Nothing has shown up in the dealer portal around the cams yet.

It seems this photo has disappeared from this website page... Am I wrong?
