I am looking for the best options for multi-pitch sport in early to Mid October. I have always wanted to go to Chamonix, but I am not sure if the crags are accessible once the lifts close?   How long are the approaches once the lifts close or should I go somewhere else?

There are a number of sport crags right in town that are quite good. The best multi pitch sport or mixed climbs are the Aig. Rouges, oposite the Mount Blanc Massif. I estimate you can reach the top of the lift by foot in under 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on fitness, and then the various climbs can be reached in 30 minutes to an hour. Please note it is quite possible snow may fall at elevation at anytime, but for the most part it will be passible and early season snow on the rock will come and go.

You can send me a PM if you need more info.

thank you, this is good info. Can you name another good crag right in town you can walk to?  Preferably sport climbs 5.8-5.11

Dont pass on Aig Rouges climbs. Its not that far, and the views are great and the climbs are great. Most climbs up thete are graded in alpine conditions, so. 5.9 on dry rock with climbing shoes will be closer to an 8 or 7.

Good luck

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
