Landowner Wants Area Removed - How to get Area Deleted?
|
|
There are two boulders in Bolton, Vermont that need to be removed from the database. The landowners don't want to put up No Trespassing signs as they seem to like that people enjoy the area, but they have been getting frustrated with poor parking, litter, excessive chalk, etc. They asked CRAG-VT (our local climbing coalition) to have the two boulders on their property be removed from public databases. They have attempted to reach out to MP in the past but haven't gotten any good response. That's sort of surprising as I would've expected this to be seen as a potential legal issue for MP to keep info about private land up against the landowners' wishes. This has been an open request for months and needs to be resolved before the fall season. These boulders have a few local classics and our community doesn't want them lost forever if the landowner gives up and just posts it No Trespassing. Is there any faster way to get areas deleted? https://www.mountainproject.com/area/111467377/roof-of-rumors-boulder |

If the area administrators haven’t responded, you might try DM’ing Zander Gopfert, who seems to be some kind of point man for various MP forum issues. Perhaps he can contact the right person. |

Thanks for flagging this, Nol, and for suggesting reaching out to me, Mark. I've just emailed the VT admins as I typically defer to them in these situations or at least want them to be aware of the issue before any changes are made. That said, if they can't weigh in or make the necessary changes by end of next week, I can. (Also curious about the previous responses they received from MP so that we can learn from any mistakes, but DM'ing or emailing me (zander@adventureprojects.net) is probably the better place to have that discussion.) Appreciate all the efforts to support local landowners. |

Thanks Zander. I've notified CRAG-VT about your response here. I know one of the admins is quite familiar with these access issues here and hopefully can find the time to respond promptly. |

Hi Nol, Kristen (VT admin on CRAG-VT board) and I were emailing last week. In an effort to maintain what's currently documented but "hide" it, we've zeroed out the GPS locations and moved both of the areas to the In Progress holding area. I've also added a Private Property & Online Documentation access note outlining the details you provided. Of course, if this isn't good enough, we can take the areas down completely. Please let me know what you think. |

Thanks for the update Zander. I'm a volunteer on the CRAG Access Subcommittee and it's a little different than what we were thinking. We'll discuss it the next time we meet. In the meantime, I've suggested some changes to the "Getting There" on both pages. |

Simply change the names to something soft people think offensive, then they'll get redacted |
