Everyone on a mountaineering forum should be able to identify that one.

For sure.

Maybe since no one has guessed yet, you can answer.

I'm surprised no one has guessed yet, but they're probably planning some cool trips for the weekend

OK, I'm headed out soon for the weekend so anyone who  knows this one please answer

This is one of the most famous mountains in the world and not obscure.  EVERYONE in this forum knows of this mountain. It's definitely one of the top five most famous in the world and probably in the top two most famous.

When you have the answer, go ahead and post your photo rather than waiting for confirmation.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Brian got it.  Matterhorn (Cervino) as viewed from the summit of Castor.

Monte Cervino.  Nice photo, Scott.

Hint: not in the Alps, Canada, the Philippines, California, or Utah

Not Lindsey, although you’re in the correct state.

Not Wheeler.

Mt. Wheeler.

Just a WAG.

It’s the highest point in a SW CO county.

Ute Mountain?

Edit: should’ve checked a bit harder — I thought Ute was in La Plata County.

It is Sleeping Ute, which is in Montezuma County. You’re up!

Btw I was wrong about it being the highest in Montezuma County. Sally is correct about Hesperus being the highest. However, the mountain in my picture is the Sleeping Ute.

Thanks George! Feels good to break into the ranks among the several legendary peak-guessers on this thread.

Have at it:

Not Medicine Bow.

I don't know what it is, but to keep things moving I'll ask if it's in Montana.

Quinn McLaughlin · · Santa Fe · Joined Sep 2024 · Points: 0

Not in Montana! This mountain resides in Oregon and, because I'll be leaving tomorrow to backpack in its home range, if no one gets it by tomorrow morning I'll post the answer and someone else can take over.

Is it that marble thing in the Wallowas? I don't know the name of it though...

Quinn McLaughlin · · Santa Fe · Joined Sep 2024 · Points: 0

It's in the Wallowas, but 'that marble thing' could describe a number of notable peaks in the range. If someone else can correctly name it, I'd say they win, but failing that you've gotten fairly close. If no one gets it tonight I'll post the answer in the morning and Matt can go.

Matterhorn ?

Bingo, Jake! That’s Matterhorn from the NE, its less impressive face. The West face is much more imposing (seriously, look it up) and is often cited as the tallest sheer cliff in Oregon. You’re up!
