Anyone tried using the edelrid rap line protect? Depending on the bend radius I can see there being issues with the repeated bending in the adjust mechanism causing faster fiber degradation of the aramid portion. The dynamic reserve aspect is interesting though, even though it’s only recommended as twins.

Haven’t been able to find it by the foot, though.

Yes, it's fine, no issues.

I've used it on camp swings and it's poopoo garbage. I have some unused lengths of it I'll sell you if you want. Maybe will work better in a petzl.

That's discouraging - was it the stiffness? Sheath roughness? I'm not overly familiar with the swing, but I know the petzl has diff geometry.

I'd take you up on buying some lengths. I'll send you a message. Thanks.

My apologies, I am not a smart man and commented before caffeinated. I misread that and thought you meant the 8.9mm Swift protect, I didn't realize their rap line had their aramid protect technology. If you want any of that lemme know, but I don't have any edelrid rap line.

Anyone have the Petzl Connect aluminum module (without rope) they'd be willing to part with?

I learned the other day that the new Connect adjust that’s coming out in the near future has a hole in the body for threading a cord that you can pull to make releasing your tether easier. That’s got me thinking about breaking out the drill for my current gen.

Has anyone else tried this?

You don't need to, you can attach a loop of cord to the current gen in a variety of ways.

Oh yeah, sure enough now that I’m holding it. Super easy. Thanks.

The 8.9 is pretty stiff, I tried it in a petzl connect adjust and didn't like it.

Their 8.2 Starling Protect Pro Dry is much more supple and is really excellent in the petzl adjust. I have no idea how it would be in the swing though.

Yeah, the word on the street is that the edelrid 8.9 Eco is bitchin for the swing.

Original rope felt too bulky for knots, so I tried this. Ended up just replacing with an 8mm cord.

Edelrid switch adjust with the strike slider and an 8 ft section of the 8.8 Edelrid canary pro dry rope. Locks great with no slippage, adjusts while free hanging under load, and easy to lengthen with one hand.

Has anyone tried/considered splicing some 12 strand dyneema to use with this? Spliced eye girth hitched to harness would be pretty slick. I have a bunch of 6mm (and 4mm, ha ha) lying around. I imagine slippage and the static nature would screw with things but if people are using the pur line already...?

Asides from the hole (and the rope, irrelevant for this discussion) what are the differences between the old and new adjust and has anyone played with how it interacts with different bits of cordage?

> So, my apples to apples comparison of a new adjust and an original adjust, both using lengths of 7.7mm Sterling Dyad half ropes—no perceptible difference.

The splice for this 7.5 mm rope has half the core strands in the eye, reduces the diameter, and the slack in the cover makes it very flexible, doesn’t try to come undone.

Briefly tried some 6 mm dyneema, seems to hold pretty good, I thought it would flatten out and slip.

So you're permanently leaving it on your harness (since its spliced, right?). This has a Todd Skinner warning all over it.

No, closer look will reveal it’s a girth hitched 4” loop, easily removed.

Duh!  My non-caffeinated brain missed that.  Looks great, btw.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
