Why is this not a thing yet? A simple comment box for commenting on a route.

Please.  Really, really frustrating you can't.

The purpose of the app is to download a local copy of the MP route database for offline use. If you want to be able to enter comments when offline there'd need to be a process for saving your comments in a temporary offline cache and synchronizing them when next you go online. I imagine that would require a major redesign of the app's underlying architecture.

If your mobile device isn't out of range you can always open mountainproject.com in a mobile browser and enter comments that way.

Honestly doesn’t seem that hard. It would take an afternoon to code.

I realize this, but is this any different from commenting on a forum on the app?

Yes, there's a difference. If you use the forums with the app you're basically interacting with a web page. It doesn't work if you're offline (try putting your phone in airplane mode and see what happens). You're not viewing an offline copy that was downloaded some time previously.

I guess that makes sense. Would it be difficult o have to new comments appear only when you updated the data for an area in-app?

That makes sense.

The underlying concept for this already exists, you can tick climbs and suggest difficulty ratings while offline.

We definitely want to add this feature to the app, the issue is just time and resources on our side.  The team that changes the banner colors is different than the team that writes trivial mobile features.  ;)  We'll try to prioritize it.  Thanks for the constructive feedback!

People who suggest this idea should include the comment they wanted to post.

'no way is this a 11c!'
'I onsighted this in my approach shoes. Pillow soft.'

Somehow we still manage to survive.

Stuff like "there is a shitload of bees at the anchor" is pretty useful info.

This comment was from 2019.

I guess you tried to prioritize it and Failed?

In the weeks and months after Jason's post, a lot happened at MP (and in the world), which culminated in REI's divestment from MP (see Nick's post). Since then, MP has largely been in maintenance mode. Commenting in the app is high on the feature-add list and we're hiring a full stack engineer and assembling a devoted team to be able to give MP the love and support it deserves.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
