Howdy!

TL:DR - feedback for Shelf Road Guide/Map

Spencer from Cafe Belay here and I was hoping to get some feedback from y'all for a sick project we are working on in Cañon City, CO with the intention of bolstering the local climbing community. The county tourism council (funded by local logging tax) is allocating money to create a foldable poster style Shelf Road climbing map.  We are working with an awesome local artist to get it looking sexy too.  Since I'm the local Shelf... guy... they want my help to figure out what to do with this thing and I was hoping the absolute crushers that ascend these desert limestone cliffs for breakfast would want to share some input as well.

It's going to be 28"x18" and intended to be a map/guide to the Sandgulch and Bank areas. It's probably going to be approach trails and difficulty ranges for the various walls as well as some campground maps. There will be a lot of information on the back regarding campground details, LNT principles, BLM specifications, etc.

Anyways, I figured this could be the perfect place for an open forum for the climbing community that enjoys Shelf.  What do you think would be helpful for current and future Shelf climbers to know about the area?  What do you think is stupid, amazing, special, lacking, slept on, etc. about Shelf?

Down in Arizona there is a guy doing these folded maps/topos of a number of climbing areas. I can’t remember who the artist/author was. (We used one for the Sedona Overlook and it was quite helpful and easy to carry). Maybe someone from Arizona can chime in.

I’m not sure that kind of thing is what you are going for, but those AZ maps could give you some ideas.

"Marty Maps" And yup they are easy to carry and great for the value, plus a little humor and art. They go for 5.00 dollars are available at local hiking stores, climbing gyms, REI, etc. They are foldouts as you said. I could snap a pic of one folded out, if I remember later, but here is a link that gives a good idea of what they look like.
