Can anyone confirm that RMNP no longer has a SAR team? I assume this means ALL Climbing Rangers have been fired? If so, this is terrible news! https://theclimbingmajority.com/87-unforgotten-lives-unseen-lines-w-maximilian-barlerin/ Just days before this episode launch, I learned that Max and his entire team of rangers had been laid off due to recent federal budget cuts—a devastating blow, especially for those who relied on the job not just for income, but for housing. The outdoor community is certainly hurting right now, and my heart goes out to everyone affected. Max reminds us that this is not a good year to get injured in the mountains—there just might not be anyone there to rescue you.

On a related note, does anyone have insight into layoff impacts on the Black Canyon? I heard the Black Canyon NP laid off ~11 employees or something like that.

the rebellious climber's attitude towards leo has certainly changed over the years.
i personally am okay w/ the idea that i'm not gonna be saved when i set off on an adventure in the backcountry/park. a true adventure awaits! no excuse for not being prepared when going into the mountains. regardless, sheet hits the fan. ce la vie! consider it a reemergence of a golden age perhaps? don't care about dump and his crew. don't care for either side of the fence. we're in an awful situation and have been for some time.
i'm getting old.
to each their own.

i should add. if guberment has taught me anything, it's self reliance.

Have you asked those who love you if they feel this way? Perhaps they are fine with it...

Yesterdays solutions are tomorrows problems. You of all should know this. You were raised to know better. good luck to you too.
do you remember that kid @ erock falling down into that 'cavern'? how banged up he was and how your heart ached and yearned to be able to help get him out right there and then? you wanted to act! however, someone had to make a call and wait. that waiting was torturous for everyone involved. everyone did the best they could considering the situation. afterwards, you made a note/vow to learn the skills you needed to help yourself and others if anything like that were to ever happened again. you have a huge heart and are a good man. i admire that. Your charity has never failed anyone.
btw, hows the famillia Creed? Hope Aubrey and crew are well? Be safe and keep crushing good sir!

jcs Well now I have no idea who I'm talking trash with, haha, but since you clearly know me, the family is doing well! Aubrey and I just had a second son. Not much climbing at the moment, but hopefully we'll get back on the rocks later this Spring/Summer. In terms of SAR, yes, that team at E-Rock was super incompetent. The team leader insisted on building an anchor with his shiny cams instead of rapping off a gigantic tree next to the hole, but that isn't the case in the busier western parks like RMNP. I had to participate in another rescue in LCC and another in Maple. Both of those SAR teams had their shit dialed, and cutting those people in the name of "government efficiency" is a major mistake. The preservation and management of public land is one of the most important functions of the federal government for me. (That's what killed me about living in Oklahoma: no public land, and public land is the poor man's private land.) As for the future of SS and Medicare, we'll see. I'm trying to find faith that our union can survive Trump and Musk, but I lean towards pessimism.
