Hey climbers! Spring is fast approaching and we want to welcome you back to Southern Nevada! The SNCC Volunteers have replaced over 50 sets of mussy hooks over the winter (to include Cactus Massacre, Civilization Crag, Dantes Wall, Cowlick Crag, and some of Panty Wall). We have many more mussy hooks painted and ready to go out. Let's give a huge thank you to our volunteers who spend the time doing this work and the community who donates money to purchase the hardware.
With the busy season fast approaching, we just wanted to send out a quick reminder that in Southern Nevada, the local ethic is to NOT top rope through the mussy hooks. Please use your own equipment to set up a top rope and every team gets one lower on the hooks at the end of your session. We are having hooks wear out in as little as 6 months and we just don't have unlimited money and manpower to keep up. If you see those around you top roping on the hooks, please give them a friendly reminder of the local ethic.
Secondly, we have a very robust wag bag program established. Unfortunately, federal funding that helps purchase the wag bags is being cut and the SNCC will be footing the bill for the wag bag program. We ask that you use your best judgement when taking a wag bag. Please don't take them just because they are free and there. If you need one of course grab one, but the community is paying for them. If you do end up using one, consider a small donation to the SNCC to help keep the program going. (there's a donation box at desert rock or click here: https://www.southernnevadaclimbers.org/donate) Do we really need another poopocalypse as a reminder of what happens when you don't have a wagbag?
Lastly, welcome back, have fun, and be safe out there! Please consider signing up for a membership or donating to the SNCC to help keep these initiatives going.
