Backcountry Route in the Wind Rivers

I am planning on some climbing in the Wind Rivers this summer and in researching I found the Milky Lakes and Bull River. Looks like a stunning valley, and I'd love to traverse the Wind Rivers from Titcomb Basin into that area. Friends probably would be able to pick us up on the east side on some dirt road outside of Crowheart/Willow Creek.

In trying to find the optimal route for this, this pass just north of Helen Peak and onto Helen Glacier seems feasible. I will be doing this in mid July so I'm not sure if the whole snow field will be melted out though. If there are any other routes which would accomplish my goal I am open minded, some Beta would be great!

Just FYI most of the dirt roads surrounding Willow Creek in Crowheart are closed to non enrolled citizens. Most people access this zone through Trail Lakes road via Bomber Basin

There is a local outfitter that can legally access the Cold Springs trailhead.

The Tribal Game and Fish in Fort Washakie can help you navigate that system if you are looking to cross the reservation at that location.

the Morse-Bradeys are spot on with the road thing on the res.  can get a tribal fishing permit ( I believe that's what it's called) for about 80$ and then you can hike about on tribal land. really some of the best parts of the Winds over there...hardly any people and a lot of wildlife.  an alternative to the Crowheart/Downs Fork direct approach is to start at Torrey Lakes trailhead and over to Downs Fork.  that's USFS land.

The trespass permits have gone up quite a bit, 135 for non wyo resident, you can also buy 1 or 7 day passes which are a bit less and you also have to buy the one time $20 required annual recreational stamp for each person/permit. You can only buy them in person at stores on the east side of the range. 100% worth it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
