I have been using Pro Deal Resoles in Pueblo for years and my shoes have always been great quality. Recently I sent a pair to Rock n Resole because I needed a quick turnaround. it was a noticeable drop in quality compared to Pro Deal. After a few weeks I'm having delamination and worn out edges. Very disappointing and I will not use them again.

+1 on Pro Deal Resoles. But you cant be in a rush. Just plan accordingly and all is golden.

I wouldn’t say R&R is the best or the cheapest but they’re definitely a legit resoler that does quality work.  And in a convenient location.  I’ve probably had 15 resoles done there and the only ones I wasn’t happy with were my first pair of clapped TC’s.  The rands did partially de-lam on the second resole but I still got another year of trad climbing out of them.
Considering the volume of shoes R&R moves through (and the often entitled, unrealistic customer base), I think they’re pretty good.

Pro Deal Resoles sometimes does a great job for a good value. The problem is that there will be zero communication and your shoes will disappear in what appears to be a black hole for 3-4 months. Also my last 2 pairs he worked on did have delamination issues, but due to his lack of communication I know there is no way I would reliably get him to fix it. So I will not be using Pro Deal Resoles in the future.

I did get work done by Type 2 Repair. They also took a long time (several months) and are not cheap, but at least he did respond to communication and is conveniently local to the Front Range. I can't comment on the durability of the repair since I've just used that pair a few times in the gym.

From Jay at Backcountry Cobblers: "The Crack King is a 3/4 resole wherein we replace the entire front rand of the TC with one that comes up higher on the sides to prevent the delam (peel away) issue in TCs where the two rands meet, additionally we add a scum patch of rubber over the toes for extra traction and comfort when foot jamming."

Just received my TC Pros from Backcountry Cobblers with the crack king conversion.  Mailed them in late November, Jay let me know they’d been received and then he emailed a receipt and a tracking number when they were done/shipped.  Very happy with the end result.

I've had R&R do most of my resoling over the years, but the most recent two pairs I got back from them don't seem to have been done to the same standard as previous work they've done for me. One of the Hiangles they did for me is already delaminating after 2 gym sessions and the other has the front edge of the new rubber jutting forward at an angle from the rand (I'm sure that will wear into normalcy pretty quickly).

You know how even on split sole shoes, R&R only removes part of the front sole pad, and then kind of blends the seam where the old rubber and new rubber meet? It looks much jankier on both pairs they did for me recently than on others I've had done in the past. I wonder how well they'll hold up...

Greater Tahoe Gripworks did a great job resoling my skwamas recently. They only work on La Sportiva shoes though, so I can't send them everything. They don't do that partial rubber removal thing that R&R does. The entire front sole pad was peeled and replaced, and in fact has a little "La Sportiva Genuine Spare Parts" hot stamp on it.

So, question: Does most everyone do the partial sole pad replacement thing that R&R does? Are there resolers whose standard MO is comparable to Gripworks' but who will work with other brands besides LaSpo?

I am by no means an expert but I believe the "partial sole pad replacement thing" is dependent on the shoe type and what last was used. My source is the Rodeo Resole website: What is a "Spare Parts" resole?

Dustin is a certified LaSpo and Scarpa resoler. As far as I can tell from his instagram account, there isn't a brand he doesn't touch.

I've sent two pairs to him and was happy enough with the results to send 3 more recently.

Giving R&R a pass based on volume and customer base is unreasonable. They're paid to perform a service. To meet the front range volume, they cut corners with training and QC. They consistently do a poor job with resoles delaminating well before service life, up-charge for unnecessary add ons, do not stand by their work, and gaslight customers over R&R's quality issues. The only thing R&R has going for them is their support of the local community.

Backcountry Cobbler has done my last 6 resoles. They've done great.

I haven’t had a bad experience with them.  That’s all I can really say.  No sole de-lams or poor quality work.  I’ve had shoes resoled lots of other places and mostly had a similar experience.

Maybe R&R genuinely isn’t amazing, but they get a lot of negativity that feels exaggerated.

The crack style re-sole by BC Cobbler does look excellent.  I may sent them a pair!

i got the crack king resole on a V1 pair of the TC pros. dissapointed that I did it to the V1 version since I find that model rand smears and regular smears on off vert better that the new version. The crack king resole is good but it is VERY stiff and you lose a lot of sensation. also found the rubber to be slick and felt like my foot could pop of an edge at any time if my heel was raised. For jamming in wider cracks tho it is amazing and the stiffness reduces almost all pain associated with that.

Had the same findings on my recent resoles - not as seamless as before and I'm getting super-fast wear - both on the sole (perhaps cut too small resulting in wearing through too fast on the sides?), and at the intersection of the new/old rand which is kind of ripping off in little sand-grain chunks where it meets the sole.

I've probably gotten 10+ pairs resoled there in prior years with good luck, and they're so convenient location-wise, so I don't really want to go elsewhere but this year's resoles just don't match the prior standard. Maybe I need to go back to using XS Grip - I wonder if the C4 rubber is just worse than it used to be and all this is attributable to crappy rubber.

Check out https://julianhentea.wixsite.com/website. I had two pairs resoled this summer and they turned out great. He saved a pair of mocs that R&R said are garbage. 2 week turn around, $75 including toe caps, and very responsive to my questions. He has a drop off/pick up box at one of the Boulder climbing gyms but can't remember if it's the spot or BRC. Highly recommend!
