Wanting to learn to climb: Lexington KY

Hoping to find someone willing to show me some basics at LEF, in Lexington and eventually in the Red. I will be doing Search and Rescue in the Red so getting some climbing basics under my belt will be helpful. Thanks

I've never been personally, but I hear Le Esclande is a pretty good climbing gym.  I believe it is also your only choice in Lexington right now.

As you are only an hour from the red, id strongly consider heading over there to get oriented. My kid and I have hired a guide (twice now) with Bluegrass Climbing school and we’re absolutely impressed. There are some others that get some praise as well, I just don’t have experience with them. Although we are not in the rescue biz, Our guide tailored the trip to serve what we needed and they can do that for you as well, plus it’s on the same rocks you will do your SAR in. My name is Noah Havlik and I'm the owner operator of the Red River Gorge Shuttle. A new local Kentucky business that's transporting passengers from Louisville and Lexington, to, from, as well as within the Red River Gorge. We do day trips on Saturdays and Sundays with stops including Miguels Pizza, Natural Bridge State Park, PMRP, Muir Valley, and select North Gorge trail heads. We also do same day pickups and drop offs at Miguel's and other en route campgrounds per our schedule so it's possible to get around locally if you're already in the area. We run a regular route Saturdays and Sundays on a booking basis which is available at redrivergorgeshuttle.com. We are not a guide service though can deliver people to their guides within the Gorge. As stated above Bluegrass Climbing School, owned by Eric Kloeker of the Wolfe County SAR team would be a great instructor. Lots of other SAR team members climb as well and I'm sure would be happy to go out climbing with you. I'm here to tell you that and make you aware of our service which may help you get to specific climbing areas in the Red River Gorge as well as potentially meet some future climbing partners that would also be on board.
