In August 2024 The Coronado National Forest  published a report entitled:

The Future of Recreation in the Sky Islands:

Public Engagement Report

https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd1200979.pdf

A Recreation “Pulse Check”, you shared and we listened

Our team devoted time this year to hearing perspectives on five popular areas across the Forest – Cochise Stronghold, Peña Blanca Lake, the Huachuca Mountains, northern Chiricahua Mountains, and Mount Graham. The engagement report is available online.  The respectful dialogue, constructive criticism, and ideas were taken. They’ve been put to use informing where we put crews and plan future projects.

Among other things, it notes:

Dispersed Recreation

•Rock climbing was only mentioned by two commenters, despite the sensing effort including a nationally known climbing destination. In some cases, these groups do not have organized representation in terms of clubs or nonprofit advocacy organizations. This level of response may also indicate there are not considerable opportunities or concerns around these activities.
