Hey there I put together this 3d animation video going through the horrific tragedy of Toni Kurz on the Eiger.
It's really thorough and hopefully entertaining and engaging, I really wanted to do the topic grace, given it's such a fascinating story.
It took 4 months to put together and a lot of work, I'd love to know what you guys think.
I'm a fan of mountaineering largely from the perspective of tragedies and disasters and similar. Though I do wish at some point to actually do it. But please bare in mind I am not heavily informed, just be aware there are probably some issues with certain details (though I would love anybodies input, given I probably am so uninformed about the subject):
I mixed up the causes of death of Angerer and Rainer, Angerer is additionally is said to have suffocated whilst falling, I did take some creative liberty here as it's uncertain as to the exact cause of death (some narratives suggest he died after the fall, rather than before by suffocating on the rope).
I kept writing out Hinterstoisser as Hintertoisser. I'm also not sure my pronunciation is correct, it's probably wrong for a lot of things. I really apologize.
There are some embellishments I had to make for certain parts of the story, for instance I depicted the group abseiling toward the direction of the Gallery Windows, not the Stollenloch. This is just because certain scenes would be hard to fit together (showing Albert von Allmen calling out to the group, and clearly showing the connection between the windows and Eigerwand Station).
I'm not 100% certain about certain things like why Hinterstoisser couldn't repeat the maneuver in reverse, the pages I researched on the story on say different things (such as not being able to perform the maneuver on a descent??) and others mention the inability to climb up the surface of the wall from the other-side.
Some aspects of the ropes and things had to be simplified to make the animation possible. So there aren't complex things like double ropes and similar.
Similarly I removed Arnold Glatthard from the 2nd day of Kurz's rescue, which I felt pretty guilty about given I really wanted to honor the rescuers. But it would have added a lot extra time to the animation to pose a 4th person for those entire scenes and detract from the drama of the story to take time out to explain his additional arrival.
Anyway I would love any of your thoughts and feedback!

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding but to do the pendulum you say the leader climbed up and then took a fall to get the appropriate amount of rope out? I haven't done a lot of pendulums, but I've done a few, and even with modern equipment this wouldn't be done, much less with old timey hemp ropes. Surely he was just lowered by the belayer and then did the pendulum to establish the traverse?
A factor 2 fall as visualized on hemp ropes would have been absolutely brutal and would have led to serious injury if not death.
