Albuquerque-U Mound vandalism

I was out hiking yesterday and discovered that at some point over the summer, U Mound got tagged up quite badly. Most of it is concentrated on the upper mound, Corridor Problem, Hita/Jita area. I know U Mound is far from a pristine spot, but this was a bummer to see. Lots of graffiti directly on the climbs. Curious if anyone with experience could weigh in on the feasibility of removing the paint? Could we organize something through NM Crag? Appreciate any thoughts.

I suggest reporting this via the City's 311 line and the graffiti team should take care of it petty quickly. If you have GPS coordinates, that will help them.

I'll give 311 a try. Would be pleasantly surprised if that ended up working.

It should work. They cleaned up huge graffiti that was put up on the White Wash cliff this spring. They have all the right equipment and it's in the ABQ Open Space. They care to keep it looking nice.

Nice! That's cool to hear there is precedent for the city conducting graffiti clean up in the foothills. Great to know, I'll keep pursuing the 311 route.

If anyone else cares to report, the online reporting tool is linked above and I've shared coordinates for the exact location.

I’ll submit the details to 311 also.

Thanks much to everyone for the 311 info and for contacting them to get this crap cleaned up.

If you’d rather take care of it in a timely manner, elephant snot and a wire brush will do the trick. Getting enough strong backs to carry out the water to clean everything up afterwards is the hard part. I’m in Arizona otherwise I’d love to help out. It make us dirty pot smoking hippie climber bums look good too! Lots of people who don’t know climbers think we do this kinda thing, we’re the ones they see hanging out covering these bad boys with white shit and mattress. Good luck!

My 311 report was acknowledged today which should mean there will be some action by the city soon.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
