I'll be in France late Sept. early October and would love to do some climbing. I plan on being around St. Remy/Avignon for a week and them I'm flexible, but flying out of Marseille. I'm 53 years old and have been climbing since I was about 19, so have lots of experience. I'm not a "project" climber anymore and just like to have fun especially while traveling. Usually fairly comfortable with 10's and 11's depending on the area and style. Obviously can belay you on anything you like and sometimes clean on top rope harder routes.

I don't know the climbing very well in France  besides looking at maps and climbing sites. I'm super flexible about my travel and climbing location. If I can't find partners, I'll search out the via ferretas. But climbing at Buox, the gorges du tarn or verdon or anywhere really is possible. I'll probably also head to Cassis and look at the Calanques depending on weather. I think you are climbing much harder routes than me so I would want to go somewhere with a variety of grades at the same crag. I'm based in Utah. I speak French a little and should have a car there.

Hi AL,

my girlfriend Lei (28) and me (33) are going to be in Marseille from 29.09 to 06.10. (escaping the onsetting autumn from Germany)

If you would like we could go to the Calonques together :).

I can belay you on lead (climbing since over 15 years) and also clean the routes in toprope; I am not in my best shape now, so I will have to see whether I dare to lead myself.  Lei did a toprope course, so we maybe can teach her how to belay lead.

Would be lovely to hear from you!

Best

Aleks

Hello Alex, That sounds great. Will you have a rope with you? I was planning on bringing harness, helmet, sport draws, grigi, and lanyards for via ferrata. Via ferreta is my plan B if I can't find climbing partners. I should be able to lead some climbs and get  rope up, but I'm unfamiliar with the area. I'm traveling with my mom (85) who is not an outdoor person. I extended my trip for climbing but she keeps extending her trip too. We are going to stay in Cassis for a few days and maybe Aix. I was going to head up to Orpierre because I thought it would be easier to find partners but if I can find some for the calanques I'd love to climb there. My number will change when I leave the US but I'll send it you when I get it.

I’m just across the border in Germany - want to meet in the middle somewhere and climb? Or hit the periphery of the Alps? I lead 10b-c and do multipitch. I have all my gear and a car.

Yes, I will contact you when I get there in few days. I don't know my number yet because I have a sim card. How far are you from Orpierre or Ceuse?

Hey, sorry for coming back to you so late. I will have a 40m rope with me, but it is also possible to borrow a longer one in Marseille. I also have a set of 10 Quickdraws with me.

Should we get a topo for the calanques and which dates would work best for you to go climbing? And is it possible to connect via WhatsApp or another messenger?

Best,

Aleks

Hi guys, my group of 4 will be in Marseille wanting to climb in Les Calanques September 20 and 21. We climb grades around 5b to 6c but are flexible. We have a rope and draws. Let me know if you would like to meet up and show us the area.

Ahh Trevor, I think I have missed you! I will be in the Calanques the 27 and after. Alex, are you still there? Sorry I didn't check this page for a while.

All good, AL. We ended up finding an area to climb at in the Calanques. I can't say I have a great grasp of the place but I may have some helpful info; feel free to message me if you'd like

Hi, just did some climbing in Orpierre and Via Ferrata in Buis. I'll be in Cassis beginning Monday. Tues or Wed climbing from Cassis would be great. Orpierre I could climb 6 pretty easily but it wasn't scary. You have a rope right? My French phone number is 06 77 24 48 58
