Easy 5.12 c/d's in the RRG?
|
|
I'm visiting the Red River Gorge for the second time and want to push grades. What are some easy 5.12 c/d's to climb? I'm hoping to get on Mosaic 5.12c, and Jesus Wept 5.12d. |

i would consider both of those "approachable" at the grade. Mirage at Solarium, The Abyss at the Deep End, Tuna Town at the lode, Mule at Military Wall. All of these are entry level in the grade to me, but they all require one common factor, that elusive Red River Gorge fitness |

Herd mentality felt really soft for 12c at solar collector. I believe your not supposed to take the 2nd sit down hueco for 12c, but its only like 11a after that anyway |

Add Cell Block Six to that list, it's an excellent one and also low in the grade. The two you mention are must do's for sure. For the record I thought Jesus Wept wasn't as soft as people say, definitely a step up from the 12c's I've done. |

Wouldn't an easy 5.12c/d actually be a 5.12a/b, or something like that? Thus, it wouldn't actually be pushing grades.. I guess I'm old.. |

I think routes can differ between entry level, spot on, and hard for the grade based on YDS grading. Of course style and body type determines what plays to your strengths and always factors in too. Cell block six was mentioned as one of the soft 12c’s. Without solid power endurance and a preference for big moves to big holds that route will feel anything but easy. I know shorter people who have climbed up to 13- who don’t think they can climb that route based on beta burning it (same for demon seed at bob marley crag in the red). Grades are funny, subjective, and shouldn’t matter as much in amateur climbing ultimately |

I actually think cell block requires the opposite of power endurance. There are multiple huge resting jugs in the steep section and the two cruxes are very defined and powerful, not really pumpy. Also if you're short there is still an intermediate in the big move. |

No matter the grade Cell Block Six is super fun. And it has a great, clean victory whip, especially skipping the last bolt. |

For me its Mosaic |

Belly of the beast probably the fluffiest of all the 12c’s mentioned |

If you are relatively strong but lacking some fitness, stunning the hog felt chill for 12d |
