Tragic news out of Canada. No details yet. Rob passed while guiding a winter climb.

He was a mentor, friend to all, father to twins and a husband who gave all he had to life. He was an incredibly awesome human who will be missed deeply. Love you and miss you already.

What a punch to the gut. Rob was a consummate guide, a professional in every sense of the word, and a really, really great guy. He will be deeply missed. My condolences to his wonderful family. So sad.

This is heartbreaking.  Rob was one of my climbing mentors and an inspiration to me.  We headed out to Indian Creek in his old VW "Westfailure" and it changed the trajectory of my life.

Rob was a good friend and a wonderful storyteller.  I miss my friend and am sad to see him go.  Peace and love to his surviving friends and family.

No....No...!

I can't beleive I'm rading this.  Rob was a mentor and friend.  I hired him as a gjuide a few times to work rescue skill when he was in Chamoix, and then we went ice climbing as friends several times in Switzerland.  I visited his home in Cham, and met his wife, kids, and wonderful dogs.

He was a great person, really open, generous, and down to earth, with a strong commitment to a culture of safety in the mountains.

I remembered what he always said, kind of playing with the Rob sponsorship slogan, "We are mountain people!"  And he always opened or signed his emails "Dude!"

My thought immediately go to his children and his wife.

Terrrible.  I'm going to have to process this.

Here's a picture of Rob and I in Switzerland together.

I think that because the first time I met him we practiced rock rescue skills, in his honor, I am going to make some time to practice these skills again and again.

Thank you Rob.

You will live in our memories and actions.

Very tough news. Rob was a talent on so many levels, and I had the privilege of working with him on many magazine stories. I always stood in awe of his talent with the written word and with his knack for capturing the true heart of mountain culture. This news is just mega heartbreaking, and my thoughts go to his family right now. Rob gave so much wisdom and stoke to the climbing world. It was always a pleasure to see him around Boulder and at the Boulder Rock Club. He'll be missed by many....

A huge loss to so many, his family first of all. A real gut punch, having recent exchanges with him regarding the wave of accidents in newer, younger climbers, and what factors seem missing nowadays in staying alive. His works in guiding, and writing particularly around ski mountaineering and avalanche safety practices set the standard, and learning of his accident feels like a betrayal of everything he'd devoted his guiding career towards. My wife and a very old friend had considered a trip to Europe, with Rob possibly joining, and his earlier cycling guide mode twenty years ago, in another life, infused an Andy Hampsten Tuscany tour with his unique enthusiasm and risque storytelling. A true Renaissance man of the mountains.

What a tragic loss for Rob's family and those who had the privilege of calling him a friend. I knew Rob since way back in the Boulder cycling scene in the late 1980's early 90's.  We reconnected a few years ago and have skied in France, Italy, Switzerland and Canada over the last few years.  Rob had the heart of a teacher, was an exceptional communicator and had a deep passion for his craft. I loved being in the mountains with Rob and especially hanging out in the hut listening to the stories filled with Robisms and his wicked sense of humor.  I know how fiercely Rob loved his family and my heart aches for them.  I can't imagine there will ever be a skin track in my life where I don't think of Rob and miss him deeply.  RIP Brudda

Real shame, I picked up a few tricks from his publication Ski Guide Manual and enjoyed the high level thought processes on groups and gear selection. Had a bucket list item to attend one of his guided experiences some day. One time, I bought a UL harness off him on the For Sale pages here and was like, "is that you? the author?" hehe and he characteristically had some nonchalant email exchange with me, not too big an ego to engage the plebs in conversation, despite what he has accomplished! Rest in Peace
