The (Un)Official 2019 Five Ten Grandstone Thread

Kevin Mokracekwrote: RIP my favorite crack shoe. Guess it's time to repair and protect the ones we have. |
Kevin Mokracekwrote: Care to share that? The reps I've talked to confirmed 2021 production runs |
Mitch Montywrote: I hope you are right, the note I got said it appears the Grandstone has been discontinued but I can still find some at various retailers. I thought I saw a catalog pdf somewhere that had the Grandstone along with the new NIAD shoes. |

Zachary Zwickwrote: I kind of had a feeling Five Ten might can the Grandstone after a few years so I bought two pair and found a pre production pair on Ebay. The pre production pair is quite a bit stiffer than the what was finally made, its my go to steep thin edging shoe, nothing comes close to it for precise edging, maybe the Blancos. I just had one of my pair resoled at Positive Resole in Joshua Tree. They did an outstanding job and get the feeling the toe won't blow out quite as fast. That was my only complaint with the Grandstone, where the sole meets the rand at the toe, it seems they wrapped the sole and shaped it at the toe which meant that Five Ten had to shave some of the sole and that's where it wears out prematurely, I think this won't happen with the resole but I'll find out soon enough. |

Kevin Mokracekwrote: Obviously could be wrong (and often am), but I think the GS has been relegated to a seasonal production run and is in fact in the 2021 catalogue along with the NIAD and new abominations This however does not bode well for it long term as I imagine demand is low |

I’m interested in resurrecting this conversation. I tried them on today with a pleasant surprise. The fit was really great. I’ve owned three pairs of TC s. I liked them but looking back I didn’t love them. My foot is on the narrow side so TCs were a bit wide but felt great jamming in cracks. The grand felt like a much better fit, a bit softer so better sensitivity and easier to mold to cracks. After looking at adidas website, I could not find them. Did they discontinue? |
Yeah, discontinued like 6months or so after they launched. I love them, and have had 3 resoles on them now, and due for a fourth. |

So it seems like the grandstone still exists.. available on Amazon right now, and Backcountry (maybe not all sizes.) However - a question for anyone else who might have purchased them in the last year or so.... does the rubber seem softer to you? It's still marked as "Stealth C4", but it seems incredibly soft and has a tendency to roll off small edges in a way that I definitely don't remember from the past. Anyway, this should still be good news for folks who love these. I just purchased a couple pairs, and they'll go straight to the resolers for XS edge or something better. |

Adam Bwrote: Agreed. I had my foot pop off twice in a way I’d never expect. Glad to hear it’s the shoe and not my technique!! Haha. |

I had three pairs of GS I rotated through. I purchased them all new in the summer of 2020. Each pair had been resoled 2-3 times and they are all destroyed now. The shoe stretched out considerably and they basically lost their form and feel like a worn out/blown out leather glove with rubber on them. I've now gone back to TC pros again and absolutely love the fit of the new TC pro design (not a huge fan of old design). I loved the GSs performance when they were new, but they didn't stand the test of time like other well made Italian models. |

Adam Bwrote: I’ve had 3 pairs of grandstones and they’ve all had that after a very short period of time. Resole and the rubber should be better. They started off with rubber that worked in way too much and got way too soft. I’ve been happier after resoling and haven’t had the same very quick wear through |

I sent three pairs (one of them brand new) to Yosemite Bum. Will update the thread on how they are with Vibram XS Edge (and one pair with XS Grip)! |

Adam Bwrote: I have a pair that Yosemite Bum put XS Edge on last year, and it added a bit of stiffness and longevity at the expense of grip. They're my beater offwidth / gym crack shoes and so putting C4 on them seemed like a waste of money, but they felt just a bit less secure in the 0.75-#1 sized cracks where I'm only getting my toes in compared to C4. Unfortunately the top of the shoe where the lace eyelets are a separate flap of material came unglued so now those shoes are out of commission. Durability is pretty bad on these for foot jamming tbh. |

I really liked the Grandstones for about the first month, but as has been stated repeatedly, they got too soft too fast. Closer to a high top Mocc after they broke in. I've spent the last season on the BD Aspect Pros and quite like them. They are stiffer and much more durable than the Grandstones, with a larger heel pocket than the TC Pros. |

Hello guys, my friend is offering almost new 5.10 grandstones for $60. He wore them for two multipitches and decided that the size was not right for him. I'm unsure about the size too, these are my street size, but it feels like maybe a half size down would be better. But price and condition are really good. Do you think it’s still worth buying them for that price? |
Alexander Bwrote: If they fit you, I don’t think you can go wrong for $60. The grandstones should be good for one or two resoles. $60 is about the price of a resole. |

FYI I have a pair of size12.5M for sale on *Bay right now. |
