Slab Progressions in JTree
|
|
Hey All, There was a post recently about crack progressions (how to become a competent crack climber) with recommendations on Level 1, Level 2 etc. with each level having a combination of technical + mental commitment accounted for (some Level 2 climbs were technically easier than Level 1 climbs, but required you to commit mentally once you reach certain sections). I was wondering if anyone had compiled a list or set of slab climbs that approach the topic from a similar viewpoint. If not I'll start taking notes. I personally love when something is described as "extreme friction!" in miramontes. Thanks M |

I got a lot of great responses in this thread a while back: https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/118063534/what-are-your-favorite-jtree-bumpy-slabs even though they aren't exactly organized in a progression. I think slab is an interesting one because both the difficulty of the moves and protection opportunities would inform a wise progression (edit: I suppose you've already described this ... haha ... apologies for my reading comprehension ..). ... For starters, I would recommend a pair of Hidden Slab routes (Under the Radar + Private Eye), then Penny Lane, Double Dip, and Stichter Quits. You can do em all in a day and even traverse the base of Echo Rock to get warmed up. |

Excellent thread / thanks for the link. I've assembled a list and it's on the refrigerator. When I climb through most of them I'll aggregate my findings. |

Niceeeee Slab is definitely a mood for me. I'll be honest, I'm not always psyched on it. But when everything is working, on a nice cold crisp day, no wind, late afternoon sun casting shadows across the bumps, there is nothing else like it! |

This post is great, I'm a big fan of slab and want to get better at it. I watched the coolest video today of John Long sending Profundity 10c on Trashcan Rock. I tried it yesterday for the first time and it was quite the challenge, I'd love to work up to a clean send on it. Of the slab route I've led, Walk on the Wild Side has been the absolute coolest. I highly recommend it! I've also led W.A.C., Swing Low, Stichter Quites, and Whispering Chickens...all super fun slab routes! |
