Hueco Tanks late March?

I’m going through Texas on a solo road trip late March/early April and was planning to stop by Hueco Tanks on the way. I was hoping to stay at the Rock Ranch but looks like it’s closed by then. Does that mean the season is fully over by then or just getting kind of marginal? Ideally I’d find some folks to go with rather than just heading in by myself, but not sure if there will be anyone else there.

I'd look for hostels in El Paso or other camping. I'm sure there's BLM somewhere in proximity. Since they have a limited quota on people going in I would prefer the off season almost. Sea of Holes is very worthwhile if you bring a rope. Also I'd be very surprised if El Paso didn't have a climbing gym.

Late March can be warm and windy.

It is late in the season, but there may be folks around, especially since El Paso now has a pretty nice climbing gym (Sessions).

There isn't any BLM land around, afaik, and pirate camping on private land is frowned on by most Texas landowners.

However, Gleatherland and the Hueco Mountain Hut are both still open, I believe, and offer camping at reasonable rates.

Camping in the park is great too, but you must be ok being locked in after 6 PM.

There are a couple of Hueco Tanks Facebook pages you can post on, looking for partners, as well as here on MP.

Finally, you could consider joining, or requesting, a volunteer back country tour.

Getting North Mountain reservations is a little complicated. 

They become available 90 days in advance.

The basics for calling in and getting them are explained here.

Permits are usually all taken quickly.

You should call now, just in case, and see if there are any available for your dates.

Two other possibilities if there aren't any left.

1) camp in the park. There are 10 walk in permits available every day. Campers can line up at headquarters before the gates open and snag one of these.

2) wait in line at the gate. Any leftover walk in permits will be given to those in line. 

AND at 10 AM any reserved permits that have not been picked up by then are released and given to people in line.

Honestly, except maybe on weekends, I think you should be able to get into the park, albeit with a chance of a little time waiting at the gate.

Thanks again for the info. I was able to get some reservations for weekdays the first week of April without too much fuss (the weekends were booked). Hopefully the weather is still decent then!
