That is Advanced Navigation, a ponder beyond the capacity of many. |

Used 2climbwrote: I live on a beach in Southern California that runs East-West. So a street running into the beach runs North-South. You have no idea how much confusion it creates when you start telling people to go by actual direction vs. perceived direction. I've had people almost CRY saying, "but the ocean is to the WEST of California!" |

I'm finding the geography drift of this thread far more interesting than many of the comments on the original subject. |

How I give directions... "turn right, and then drive south until, if you went any further, you'd need a boat. Then park." |

Mike Morleywrote: I just looked and LA is East of Reno. But I guess many people wouldn't know San Diego is East of LA. . El Paso to LA is 801 miles and El Paso to Houston is 773. At least by Google driving directions. I guess it's farther as the crow flies? Edit: a reddit thread says a straight line is: El Paso to Houston: 647.691 miles El Paso to LA: 700.546 miles So it may be what part of LA and El Paso you are talking about. I guess border to border is implied in the statement. San Diego is 726 miles driving. So that's likely closer no matter how you look at it. |

Gloweringwrote: Darn… I’m wrong! City hall, LA to El Paso is 801. City Hall El Paso to City hall Houston is 736. But really- zero climbing in LA, takes 9.5 hrs to drive to work, horrible crappy place. Do not move here. |

In an effort to become less livable, LA and orange counties have removed HOV carpool lanes. They are replaced with Fastrak toll lanes. |

Meanwhile average traffic speed in LA county is 10 miles per hour. Higher midnight to 4 AM. That’s street, highway or “freeway”. Slower in LA city. You’re not climbing real rock weeknights. |
