Motor Oil on Braille Book
My partner and I climbed Braille Book on Upper Cathedral Rock this past weekend and noticed what appeared to be motor oil on some of the holds. We were totally shocked and almost couldn't believe it. But it looked like oil, smelled like oil and was slippery like oil (found out the hard way). Who would do such a thing? Has anyone else noticed this recently? Is there some plant that releases sap that smells and looks exactly like oil? Please help me solve this mystery. |

I once saw two guys use Pennzoil to free up a stuck cam on Cruel Sister at Smith Rock. Was puzzled that anyone would have a quart of motor oil in their crag pack... |

1. Black, oily looking substance on rock at base of cliff. Residue of plant matter like seed pods visible 2. Bird friends who settled in 15 feet away as soon as we sat down for lunch. |
