Cirque of the Towers Historical Conditions: July
|
|
I'm hoping to head out to the Cirque the 2nd week of July to do the traverse followed by the Cirque of the Towers Loop (backpacking). Besides the bugs, what could I expect? In years past, what have conditions been like? When did you go? I'm not asking anyone to predict 2024's conditions, that's ridiculous to attempt. I just want to know what July has been like in the past. Thanks |

Bugs, lots of bugs, like so many bugs that you dont know what is or isnt a bug...I remember like it was yesterday, sunny, 5mph breeze from the NE, with my 2nd wife. We wanted to climb a variation of the east ledges that would avoid the crux chicken head. Out of nowhere the skies blackened and we couldnt find the ledge anymore. I was on lead and panicked, ended up taking a whipper onto a cowbell I had bought to resell of the FS forums to pay for our future dog's friendship training. My ego was destroyed, my wife never trusted me again, and worst of all she took the cowbell in the divorce. I had foregone the prenup since I figured as long as I could lead 5.2 she'd love me for my technical prowess, but apparently I wasnt ready. I wasnt ready for the climb, I wasnt ready for love, but more importantly I wasnt ready for the bugs... |

I don't know about July, but the Winds and Tetons were being hammered the 21st of September! |

Every year there’s 3 or 4 threads of people asking for July conditions updates. I’d bet searching would turn up a lot. |

Snow squalls, mosquitoes requiring head nets and full body coverage but man was it ever beautiful and fun climbing. |
