Mountain Project Logo

New Logo cropping/framing doesn't work as well

I they the owners wanted to add the 'X' from on-x (or whatever it is?). But the climber's dangling feet with the removal of the hexagon border, doesn't make much sense, it's like they're climbing on an invisible food hold, I didn't get that feeling before. Also the lack of mountains on top (just a white triangle now) is a little less cool, IMHO, but not as bad of a change. Just seems like a slightly... insensitive logo update.

I have no basis for this though, but I feel like there was a conversation where the boss person was like 'add an X, now', someone sketched up a draft in MS paint, and was told to push it to production without having any UI/UX people chime in.

My first reaction was that the X was a button to close out a pop up window or something. Seems like a kinda poor logo mashup

new logo is very ugly and sucks to look at

weakens the brand value for sure

also thought it was a tap to exit the app or page will close right? x to close

graphic designer please do better and be a climber

must be outsourced no one can climb under a smooth triangle

also thought the X was a copy cat trendy logo from the  twitter switch to X as twitter is now X dot com

The new logo is more inclusive to gym climbers and moon boarders.  Why isnt the climber just dangling off an X now?

This is actually the new logo for MP.

  • Yes, It had to fit within a system across Adventure Project properties.
  • Yes, the goal was to bring in the onX brand.
  • No, it's not ground breaking, but throwing the baby out with the bath water also wasn't an option at this point.

Thank you. Please continue design critique.

This looks atrocious and roughly 30 businesses of Kalymnos are going to be heartbroken that their logos no longer line up with it

You managed to make an already shitty logo even worse.

On a more constructive note, why not try to preserve the original colors on the actual MP graphic and make the X black and white? Also, the rounded edge on the overhang looks out of place

Wow, what a bunch of design mavens! Is this Mountain Project or Project Runway?

Personally, I like this one

Ok now someone just make a big X, with an autobelay on the left corner, a family rappelling on the right corner, some gym holds up the face, a portaledge in the upper center gap. And a dog waiting at the bottom. If you can squeeze a hammock into the lower center gap you get bonus points.

OnX, you would be wise to embrace the pain of this community  and change the logo monthly to represent whatever the dumbest thing we are arguing about in the forums is.

It just seems like.... no design professional (or even amature / hobbies / whatever) was consulted in this (or other) changes.

This is a brilliant idea

Unbelievably ugly.

Well done Mountain Project, this is the bold thinking we need to repel new climbers to the sport.

First thing I did on seeing it was click the X to try and make it go away.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
