Emeralds/Bowman Valley conditions
|
Road to the parking lot is clear, most of the snow is gone from open/sunny aspects, still significant patches (80% coverage id guess) of snow up to a couple feet deep in shady areas in that zone. The beginning of the approach trail was relatively dry. I'd guess the rocks may be a bit wet since stuff is melting fast, but I think you could find some dry routes to climb without having to hike through too much snow. |

I was at Steel Monkey yesterday. The trail is covered in snow but rock is dry there at least. The belay area is clear of snow. White riot is seeping |

We climbed at the Emeralds yesterday. Approach trail a bit wet and some post holing, but nothing too bad. The following walls were all climbable and dry: kudos right, fortress, most of chalkporium, dollar store, elder wall (and maybe others?) The snow up against kudos left and fast food wall looked a little treacherous to navigate. Overall great day out and should be almost fully climbable soon. (Below photo is from kudos left) |

That snowbank might make the opening moves of Ambushed in the Night (and the landing) a bit less heinous. |

Does anyone know if the camp areas are clear of snow? Thanks! |

Where everyone camps in the summer near the parking lot. Been going there for years and everyone camps… |
|
They blocked off more of those camp sites recently. Clearly they don’t want people there. |

I’m hoping to climb at Bowman Lake this weekend. As far as I know, the road is open and based on the fact that the Emeralds are basically snow free at this point, it should be climbable. Has anyone been back there yet this year? Is the dam releasing too much water to cross the wash below the broken bridge? |

Been a few weeks since any updates on emeralds. Anyone been up there in last week? Climbs dry? Any bad road conditions to approach issues? I’m trying to go tomorrow so any up to date info is much appreciated |

jerold sharber wrote: Super dry at the Benches. Zero snow. Routes are dry. Road is fine. Approach is fine (a couple muddy spots in the usual places). Climbing is hot in the sun, but decent in the shade. The river is ripping, which is cool to see. |

Is Bowman Lake accessable? Any updates |
|
No lots of snow on road |
|
Anyone know if Bowman lake is accessible now? Thanks!! |

I unfortunately got my rope stuck in the anchors of the route Penny Pincher at the Scottland crag. It is easy to rappel down to the anchors from the top of the Scottland crag by using a tree as a natural anchor. I would have done it myself but I didn't have a second rope and had to leave. Can someone please clean up my mess and get a free rope in the process? It got stuck on 7/2/23 and is a green 1.5 year old 70 meter Edelrid Tommy Caldwell Pro DuoTec 9.6mm Dry Rope in good condition. |

I heard it is now? |

Has anyone been to grouse ridge recently? Is the area accessible? Where do you camp? I can’t find the grouse ridge campground anywhere on recreation.gov. |

Matt Freiberg wrote: People have been climbing on Grouse Tor so it should be accessible without too much trouble. High clearance will make it easier but barring recent winter road damage its a pretty good road for nearly any vehicle. There is tons of camping anywhere you want along the road up there as long as you bring your own water. You drive up the side of the ridge to get there, not much flowing past a certain time of year near the road but countless level pullouts to set up a camp. |
