the 2 times ive been to tge saddle i walked the tunnels. obviously a much lionger hike, but its all level and straightforward...
I'd probably do that with a sport climbing pack for going to cold stream, but I wouldn't want to hike in the amount of pads I'd like to bring. I guess if you have a large group it wouldn't be too bad.
You can get to the Saddles with a truck but I think those directions are outdated. They seem to take you past the parking for main Cold Stream climbing area, but the road just past the parking is fucked.
Shortly after the tunnel (once you are moving away from the train tracks), there is a hairpin right turn that heads uphill, to the north then heading west. This will take you to the Saddles. My Gaia app identifies this as Hewlett Road. Please try to avoid wrong turns onto private roads/property out there.
