Hollow Flake drawing

Hi y'all

I'm trying to track down a drawing by Steve Gropp depicting his ordeal getting stuck in the hollow flake. One of my Camp4 homies recalled the drawing being made into a t shirt for the Yosemite Climbing Association. Based on his campfire description, the piece seems to really capture the spirit of this fine pitch!

I found a supertopo thread discussing it but of course all the great historical pics have been burnt off the taco

...

The free climbing up to El Cap Spire blew my doors off. Unfortunately we got quite soaked and bailed from there. The cracks were running like a waterfall!

...

P.S. My interest in the drawing is just personal, not business. Slightly related -- I'm also interested in old climbing mags with yosemite stories, if anyone's willing to part with em. Something about sleeping on the spire got me dreaming about the past, and of course, going back for more ...

I remember it, and bought a bunch of those T-shirts from that cat Simon who was selling them, along with the Weenie Roast T's and some others.  I might even have some brand new ones in a box somewhere.  No idea what would motivate me enough to go and find them though.  They are stowed across town in storage.

Edit:  Hey, found one in my closet, never even worn.  It is a small xl, so probably like an actual mens large.  I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping, gotta be like $6.00.  Want it?  Let me know.

Oh man , thanks Russ !! I'll send you a message . I appreciate it. Such a cool artistic drawing.

Glad homeboy made it out all right, I kept waiting for the flake to get wider but I never fully squeezed in. Heel toed for miles.

What a spectacular shirt.  If they did reprints of these old shirts to raise funds, I'd definitely buy!

Would love to buy one of these if you ended up finding some more in storage! Cheers

You can probably contact Steve Gropp here:

He does absolutely incredible ornamental iron work.

I remember when he got stuck in Hollow Flake. All of us that were living in Camp 4 then were aghast at the story.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
