Iceland June 21-August 1

Hey yall, I'm headed to iceland for about 5 weeks to backpack, explore, but mostly to climb! I'd really love to get on some ice (which I have no experience with as of yet) and lots of rock. I can climb sport pretty comfortably outside at about a 5.10-5.11 for lead and touching 5.12 for TR. Looking for someone to show me around and possibly let me use their home as a sort of "home base" to store gear while I explore the beautiful country of iceland! |

Hi Savanna! The best climbing area in Iceland by far is Hnappavellir, which is located a little over 4 hours drive east of Reykjavík. This is a sport climbing area with over 100 single pitch routes. In good weather over the weekends during the summer you can guarantee there will be plenty of other climbers there. We have a little hut and a campsite that all the climbers use. The climbing wall in Reykjavík is a good starting point to buy the guidebooks for all Icelandic climbing areas, and to get advice on how to get there (hard to find this info online in English). There is also a great climbing area in the far north west at a place called Norðurfjörður. There is a climbing weekend event being held there 21st/23rd July, so that would be good to go to if you plan to explore the west fjords (I highly recommend) https://facebook.com/events/s/klettaklifurfestival-isalp-202/1319667598880203/ We have a Facebook group for the community where people often post if they're going climbing somewhere or looking for a partner. So definitely check that out. Everyone speaks English so no worries about that https://www.facebook.com/groups/263888550443951/?ref=share For more info on the climbing areas, you can look at klifur.is (Icelandic only) and there's also some info on ukclimbing.com or 8a. I live in Höfn which is about an hour's drive east of Hnappavellir, and always keen to climb with people. I'm climbing 5.10/11 and projecting 5.12. DM me if you want to exchange WhatsApp numbers or something. I'm hoping to have a lot of free time in the 2nd half of July for climbing. :) Holly |

I heard of a sick multi trad there called vastrahorn. I heard the approach is long but the climb was really cool. |

Yeah the route is called Boreal on a mountain called Vestrahorn. It's a 5.7 multipitch. Haven't climbed it myself but it looks epic |

Hi! I will be in Iceland late June/early July for a couple of weeks. Boreal sounds awesome! I would love to get on that. Anyone interested, please reach out. I had not planned on climbing on this trip but….it sounds too fun to pass up, if an opportunity arises. |
