South bend IN climbing community
|
|
Fiancee and I are looking to move to south bend in the coming months. She has an amazing job opportunity that we can’t give up but we are worried about be able to go climb and to find friends with similar interests. Does anyone know of a club or a place to climb with others that isn’t connected to Norte Dame Uni? (We have no connections to the university so we can’t use their gym). |

You already live in Iowa, so how bad could it be? |

There is a new gym opening in south bend. Should open up your community options. I think there is a underground board community too. I am an admin on the ND Climbing club facebook page if you need an in to start looking for other climbers |

Ah, fond memories. To know it is to love it: Most worthwhile stop en route to the Red: Exciting that a new gym will be opening in Mishawaka in June! Congratulations to you and your fiancee on the exciting new adventures! |

The new gym in Mishawaka looks nice. Its bouldering only and should be open in early June. There is also a small bouldering gym in Goshen which is pretty fun. Near downtown South Bend is the KROC center, they have a very small wall with 4 auto belays. Its worth checking out if you live close by. |

I frequent trips to devils lake if you are passing through heading north. Also hit southern Illinois for weekends and frequently travel to climb as well. |

Thanks for the feedback! I didn’t know there was a new gym opening even if it’s only for bouldering it’s better than nothing. |

for the region, also check out the Chicago Mountaineering Club. They run free-to-join trips at the Lake (Devils Lake, Wisconsin), which is closer than the Red. the routes+rock quality are humbling. for a TR-only experience, there's also Grand Ledge, MI. |
